CBD Neighbours (That Serve Great Wine)

I love popping into Embla when I can for a glass of wine, some snacks and a relaxed vibe. I also love Tonka for a nice night out. They do a great curry, have an excellent wine list and I’m always so well looked after by the team there.

Classic French

French brasserie, France-Soir is a long-time favourite. I actually can’t really remember the first time eating there, but it must have been over 25 years ago now. It was excellent then and it’s excellent now. It’s the place I go to for comforting, delicious French classics like steak tartare and margret de canard, great wine, friendly service and an all-round good time.

On A Sunny Day

If there’s a little sunshine out, I’ll put on my sandals and head to Elwood Bathers along the foreshore for a crisp cold beer, great simple food and excellent service.

Where I Take Out-Of-Towners

If friends or chefs are visiting Melbourne, I take them to Scott Pickett’s Matilda. It’s an excellent example of a modern, relevant and refined venue with great food and relaxed but perfected service.

Dining And Celebrating With The Family

Our family can be hard to please, but we usually go for something simple and relaxed. We love Lupino, Pinotta or Carlton Wine Room. I recently celebrated a birthday at Chinese restaurant and Melbourne institution, Flower Drum. You really couldn’t be more well looked after, anywhere. We were spoilt with delicious food, great wine and of course, great company.

Japanese, Melbourne-Style

Kenzan is a great spot to experience the local scene and dining culture. It’s been running a long time and has really high-quality Japanese food with great service.
